But wait… there’s even more info from Anna:
The senior foil, epee and sabre events will include a plate competition.
This means that fencers who win their first bout in the DEs will continue up the Direct Elimination tableau towards the Overall Final in pursuit of the Championship Cup* while fencers who lose their first DE will move into their own tableau and work towards the Plate Final in pursuit of the Championship Plate**. We hope that this will give novice fencers who may or may not qualify for the Junior event a chance to compete and win against other fencers of a similar skill level, particularly as BC competitions tend to be very top-heavy and it’s hard for newer fencers to break onto the podium.
*An ice cream dish **Also an ice cream dish.
Escrime Sundae is always a lot of fun — if you win, you get ice cream, and if you lose, you also get
ice cream! This year’s event is unsanctioned so all fencers are very welcome to join us, whether they are licensed or not. If there is anything you need to make this event work, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Please preregister early to help us plan the competition and the ice cream bar.
If you or your fencers are looking for rideshares, gear tips or training partners leading up to the big day, check out the Facebook group Fencebook BC — a great source of news, help, and communication between the fencers in our province.
All the best,
Anna
