Fence-a-thon: May 27-28! Register! Register! Register!

Registration for the the 11th annual Fence-a-Thon, is now open!

Fence-a-thon is a twelve-hour, overnight fencing marathon May 27-28 to benefit the BC Cancer Foundation.

Events Scheduled:

  • Mixed Epee
  • Mixed Foil
  • Mixed Saber

All events close at 7pm, Saturday, May 27, when fencing will begin. For this reason, fencers must choose only one weapon to fence before midnight – after midnight, you can fence anything you’d like!

Each event costs $25 and all money raised will go to the BC Cancer Foundation to help support cancer care and research in British Columbia. We will send out information about fundraising shortly…

Your first Fence-a-Thon? Here’s how it works:

7:00 – All events start fencing. All events are run mixed and fencers must choose one weapon for this part of the event.
12:00 (or when the last tournament ends): Midnight Feast provided by the fencers and families of CCFC
1:00am Start fencing again til morning! We may hold team events, marathons, or our famous Flepeebre team relay.
7:00 All fencing stops, total bouts and scores are added up, and we hand out some great prizes.

Yes, we said prizes — and they are seriously excellent! First dibs on our fabulous prizes will go to our top fundraisers, then the winners of the events and those who have had exceptional nights fencing after midnight. To find out more about our prizes as they come in, check us out on Facebook at:

Please preregister early at https://askfred.net/Events/moreInfo.php?tournament_id=36879 to help us to know how many prizes to look for and how much food to cook.

This event is being run unsanctioned and all fencers are welcome to attend, regardless of whether they have a CFF or USFA license. It’s a great chance to get a lot of fencing against some strong competitors!

Important Dates May – June

  • No fencing: Monday, May 22 (Victoria Day) & Wednesday, May 24
  • Fence-a-thon May 27 – 28
  • Annual late night pizza .. after practice May 31. Details to be confirmed…
  • Last night of fencing season: June14

Summer fencing options!

If you wish to keep fencing this summer, may I suggest the UVIC fencing club? They run a series of classes through the summer that are open to the public, and reasonably priced. You may see a few familiar faces hanging around there, too!

The first sessions start next week, and then there is a second session starting June 21.

Registration and information available here.

(They are also offering an introductory class for 10-14 year-olds this summer … so if you have younger friends/relatives let them know).
