Last nights of fencing

Hello fencers!

Fencing is on tonight, and Monday and Wednesday next week. Our last night of fencing is Wednesday, June 14. Mark your calendars for Monday September 11 at 8 pm, the first night of next season.

Looking for some summer bouts? Check out UVIC’s summer fencing for ages 12 to adult… It’s a steal at 70$ to fence June 24 – Aug 5. (Wednesdays and Saturdays). They also have a beginner class for younger kids so recruit your nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters and neighbors…

Deniza and Ahmed medal at BC Youth Provincials

In an awesome year-end triumph, Deniza Ospan won **gold** at the BC Provincials in Y14 Women’s Epee last Saturday.

And the very next day, Ahmed Elbassiouny won a bronze medal in Y10 mixed foil.

Congratulations to you both!

Thank you!

A hearty thank you to everyone who has contributed to the club this year — whether you volunteer at the tournament to set up or referee–or taking on the Directeur Technique role at the last minute when we ran our first ever plate competition (ahem, Shane, I’m looking at you!), repair all the club gear and then repair it again (thanks Rob!), drive your kid out to practice and all the tournaments, recruit new members and tournament participants from among those you coach, build an ice cream bar worthy of the gods, teach the beginner class, provide individual coaching, or just show up like a determined regular and fence, you make the club tick!

And while I’m at it, here’s a fun stat I had to compile for the gaming grant:

From September 2016 to May 31, we had 91 youth and 61 adults participate in fencing through our club. Those are unique head counts–no double counting. Fencers attend as club members, tournament competitors, beginner class students, and students trying fencing for the first time in their gym class… and we have another school session at Rock Heights school to come so that youth number is going up. That’s a lot of people touched by the club, its volunteers and coaches!
