Hello Fencers! Here is your mid-November club update.
No Fencing November 12
There is no fencing on Monday, November 12, as it is a stat holiday (Remembrance Day observed) in the rec centre.
Beginners tournament
Congratulations to CCFC fencer, Anna Young, who won bronze at the Senior Mixed Foil Beginners Invitational on November 10!
Our second ever Beginners invitational brought 21 fencers out from Capital City Fencers’ Club, Saanich Rec, UVIC fencing club and OSM fencing to compete in U13 and Senior mixed foil events.
12 fencers competed in the Senior event, which included fencers aged 13 and up.

Anna took a bronze medal, and Olivia succeeded in winning her first DE bout, losing 15-10 in her second DE.
Maya (from UVIC) shared the bronze title, while Cove and Jorge from UVIC’s beginner group took silver and gold respectively.
In the U13 event, 9 fencers from Saanich Rec and UVIC entered the competition.

Theo Patton (UVIC) earned the gold medal, with Tristan Bird (Saanich) taking the silver. UVIC’s Ariel Miranda and Nathan Morley took the bronze medals.
The event ran smoothly thanks to the hard work of many volunteers.
Thanks to our referees, Rob Smith, Isaac Carter-Hughes, Francis Barss, Lawrence Barss, Noelle Chang Zhelka, and Joseph Barss. (As usual, the Barss brothers added a sense of pinache to the event with their creative interpretation of the referee blazers look – see below!). Eric Zhelka gets special mention for impromptu service as last minute timer and ice pack run champion.

Big shout out to the coaches, Miko Ross, Caleb MacIntosh, Benson Hung and Orion Stone-McNeil.
Extra thanks to Rob for working as armourer late into the night to get everything ready for the big day, and to Orion for organi zing the event plan to ensure a smooth flow of events.

November goof-ball night
Wednesday, November 28 is our monthly goofball night. Come compete for prizes! Drop in fee is $5 on goofball nights.
Holiday gift stealing night – December 19.
Our last night of fencing in 2018 is Wednesday, December 19. The perfect night for our annual gift stealing night.
The rules: each fencer brings a wrapped gift with secret contents. It can be purchased (value ~5$) found around the house (hello, spatula!) or made (cookies welcome!). Fencing continues as normal, except at the start of each bout the fencers place their gift currently in their possession by the score box. At the end the bout, the winner decides which gift they leave with. This continues all evening until we break to open the gifts.
Note: you will want to plan to stay until at last 9:45 to enjoy this event.
