Monday free guest nights and more CCFC news

Hey Fencers

We have some programming updates for Capital City Fencers’ Club. Contents:

1. No fencing Oct 21

2. Monday (free) fight nights

3. Wednesday warm up sessions

Oct 21 — no fencing (because democracy!)

We have just been informed that Elections Canada will be running a polling station at the Royal Oak Middle School gym on October 21 … so there will be balloting but no bouting on Monday night. Sad for us, but good for democracy! Don’t forget to vote!

As a result, election themed goofball night will be held on Wednesday Oct 23! Fence for a percentage of overall points in the room… and discover which party’s result most closely resembles your own! Coalitions, throne speeches, and confidence motions may occur!

Monday free fight nights

As part of Capital City’s mission to promote fencing and excellence through competition, the Board has decided to offer *free* fencing drop ins to members of our sister clubs on Monday nights in November and December.

We hope this will provide an opportunity to fencers from across all the clubs to fence different opponents, get a little extra practice, and engage in some informal competition between clubs.

So, if you have completed a beginner class, are 13+ years, and fence with Saanich Rec, UVIC Fencing Club, or OSM fencing, you are invited to drop in for free fencing at Capital City on Mondays from 8 pm – 10 pm at Royal Oak Middle School. Bring proof of membership (i.e. receipt) or have your coach notify us that you are a member who is planning to attend.

Equipment provided.

Wednesday warm ups

As part of our programming update, CCFC club coaches will be leading a warm up/technique session Wednesdays from 7:30 – 8 pm. This will be done in tandem with the beginner class, and continue as a regular part of our programming going forward.
