November fencing update

Hello Fencers!

Thank everyone for making our first month back to fencing a success.

Now we are all used to the COVID protocols it is getting to be more routine to manage our twice weekly practices. Thanks everyone for helping us make it work to fence safely!\

Here are some updates:

November 11 – no fencing on Remembrance day as there are no staff in for bookings that night at Royal Oak Middle School.

The rec centre is not open, so we will have no fencing Wednesday night, November 11. So lets make the most of Monday!

Reffing workshop announcement from OSM fencing – November 21

OSM Fencing Club will be hosting the first training clinic of the 2020-2021 fencing season on November 21st at Braefoot Community Association in the Main Hall, 2nd floor. This clinic will be a comprehensive introduction and examination of refereeing. Whether you are interested in being a referee, a fencer in any of the three weapons, or a spectator, this clinic is essential for better understanding the sport and how it works.

What will be discussed and practiced in this clinic:
• Right-of-Way/Priority
• Fencing Phrase/Action
• Duties of a Referee
• Penalties/Sanctions
While the clinic is specific to refereeing, the contents are essential for athletes as it will help them understand how they are being awarded a point and why. It will also help encourage accurate club refereeing, cleaner bouting, encourage appropriate fencing behaviour, and act as a bridge for those interested in participating in tournaments. The clinic will be open to all members of the Victoria fencing community, including parents, so this will be a valuable opportunity to socialize and network with other fencers within the community.

When: November 21st, Saturday
Duration: 3.5hrs. (1:30PM-5:00PM)
Registration: Member – $10.00, Non-member – $15.00
Spaces Available: 25 seats

Club members will be prioritized for registration, but space is limited. Registration payment can be made any time prior to the clinic or at the clinic.
