Fencing club – Covid response this week

Hello Fencers!

Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM and was part of our discussion regarding the club’s response to the latest provincial health orders.

As you will have heard, all adult sports are suspended and youth indoor sports are at Phase 2 of the ViaSport guidelines.

What does this mean for the club?

Until further notice, only youth 18 years and under can attend practice. Practice will include only footwork drills, not fencing bouts with opponents. All activities will be designed to keep participants 2M apart.

There are about six youth regularly attending, so it will be easy to maintain distance in a double size gym.

As there is still interest from some youth fencers, Isaac and I will open up for practice as usual on Monday.

Practice will involve some warm up, foot work and technique drills, and then some discussion of fencing strategy.

I will take video of the exercises for those who may wish to use the footwork drills at home.

While bouts are undeniably the most fun, it will improve your fencing to practice footwork and work on developing technique. I encourage everyone to participate at the gym or on video.

Please RSVP

Youth fencers! Please confirm if you will/will not attend to help us plan the best structure for the evening:

Take care and stay safe everyone.
