Last night of youth clinic – plus latest clinic video(s)

Tomorrow night is our last night of fencing youth clinic.

I want to thank Isaac for his excellent leadership and built an excellent skill development program on no notice.

I also want to thank the youth who came out and did the all the footwork and training, despite not being able to fence each other. They also had to listen to a *lot* of Wham.

For those following along at home I have posted another clinic series video (reminder the password is: in the clube email we just sent)

I am almost done the next video series as well so keep checking back!

COVID Update: We’ll be back!

I watched the BC COVID update today and the BC restart plan will be bringing back sports just as fencing season ends. But on the brighter side, we can anticipate a return to fencing this fall. Can’t Wait!!!

But you don’t have to wait until September to see your fellow swordsfolk because…

Equipment return

For those who have borrowed club equipment, we will have options:

1) arrange for individual return of equipment and a refund with Stacy (reply to this email to make arrangements)

2) come to our club year end picnic for an outdoor COVID protocol permitted duel and return equipment there (see below).

3) request to keep the equipment and continue to use it next season (Permitted with payment of fall fees, no new equipment deposit required)

4) purchase your own equipment and get a full refund including your deposit (let Stacy know if you would like to do this and we will put together a group order to arrange club discounting)

If you do 1 or 3 or 4 you are still invited to the picnic.

Picnic with Parries in the Park – dates TBA

Outdoor gatherings and outdoor sports with spectators will be permitted after June 15 (as long as things proceed to trend in a positive way COVID-wise.

While Dr Henry is proposing a BC HUG DAY I propose we have a day for post-COVID stabbing … with a late June club picnic where we fence al fresco!

Plus we can compete for lunge meat! and also other picnic food-themed fencing puns.

This will be a low key event and likely not a potluck to reduce risk. . . date TBA but let me know if you have a preference.

Also if you know the BEST park or location where we could plug in a score box that would also be awesome. We may just fence dry and increase everyone’s enjoyment by adding extra arguments.

I have submitted a request to book a Saanich picnic site on some late June weekends (not the long weekend) but other suggestions welcome.

Thanks to our funders

A big hearty thank you to the BC Government who have awarded us a $7,150 Community Gaming Grant to help us keep fencing accessible next year. This program also allowed us to keep going with our reduced revenues this year, and carry forward some funds as well. This grant funding allows us to run free clinics, support youth travel to tournaments, and cover gym rentals for practice and our tournaments.

Thank you also to the KidSport who have awarded us a $1,000 grant to run a girls fencing camp as part of their ‘Play It Forward” program to encourage girls in sport.

YAY!
