Hello Fencers!
Happy New Year
We’re back to fencing on Wednesday, January 19. Can’t wait to see you all for our first bouts in 2022!!
Here is what you need to know:
1. Schedule & Fees for half month
Since we will January is a half-month, the monthly membership fee will be pro-rated to $20.
Our fencing schedule remains:
Mondays 8 – 10 pm (note our First Monday is January 24)
Wednesdays 7:30 – 10 pm (starting Jan 19)
2. Equipment rentals
Fencers who need to rent equipment (and didn’t already do so in September or December) should plan to attend the first session to sign out their equipment. Rental fee is $250 for a full set, with $225 refunded upon return at end of the season in June. (Full $250 refunded if you buy your own set).
If you took the beginner class in September, and have a set with your warrior name on it, we will rent you the same set you have already selected. Please submit payment bring a bag to take the mask, jacket, lame and glove home with you.
If you cannot make it Wednesday, but wish to reserve the equipment, please let me know so we can arrange payment and set the equipment aside.
Please let me know if fees are a barrier, we always prefer participation above all and we can work out a plan with you.
Please note that equipment not assigned by pick up or arrangement this week will be used for our next set of beginners, which starts January 26.
3. COVID safety
As you know, the club postponed the start of fencing until January 19 in response to concerns about COVID variations, and wanting to wait to see how the holidays affected transmission. We have also capped our beginner class at 8 people this round to make distancing a bit easier.
The Public Health Orders remain the same for sport practice, with the exception that travel to tournaments outside our region is prohibited.
As volleyball is starting up again, we will be using a single gym and won’t have both sections moving forward.
As a result, COVID protocol are even more important to follow:
– sign in is required by anyone entering the gym
– vaccination is required
– no shared equipment
– facemasks are required when walking through the building and at practice until fencing. Fencers are encouraged to wear a mask between bouts, and welcome to wear them while fencing.
– please sanitize hands before and after using the common items (clips to hook body wires, score box)
– come dressed in your gear (no change rooms)
– bring a water bottle (avoid the fountain)
We will also return to the following practice from Jan – June last year:
– limiting two people in the equipment room at a time
To avoid too many people in the equipment room, coaches may ask you to pick up/return club swords and piste equipment at the equipment room entry
Hooray!
See you Wednesday!
Stacy
