Fencing on Hallowe’en – haunting by UVIC Fencers
Yes! We will be fencing on Halloween night from 8 – 10 pm at Royal Oak Middle School. What’s more we are anticipating some spooky visitors from UVIC fencing!
There will be fencing and candy. And mayhem.
No fencing Wed Nov 9 … but maybe a social?
We do not have the gym on November 9 due to a school activity using the gym. There will be no fencing, and no beginner class, that night.
Shameless plug: if you are looking for something to do instead of fencing, you can join me at this November 9 fundraiser for the Gordon Head Refugee Sponsorship Group: Music Bingo Tickets, Wed, 9 Nov 2022 at 7:30 PM | Eventbrite. If you came to Escrime Sundae last May you may remember the excellent Syrian pizza we had on sale to support this group. (And if you want to make it into a CCFC social and sit with me let me know as I will be booking a table). 😊
Tix are $30 for both games. It’s great fun and there are awesome prizes to be had for those who can daub and yell fastest.
Fernwood Inn is open to all ages.
Champs!
Capital City Fencers’ Club was well represented at tournaments in October!
Simón, Jost, Noelle, Taylor, Caleb and I all represented CCFC at OSM Circuit #1. Here’s a really nice touch by Taylor (a fleche!):

Check out Caleb, Noelle, Simón, and Jost jumping for joy with all those medals!

I don’t know what Jost said but apparently it was pretty funny:

Isaac was also spotted in the OSM tournament venue wearing a blazer!
CCFC Supported Simón and Jost to travel to the Canada Cup October 21-23 weekend, with Simón competing in both Junior and Cadet and Jost competing in Junior. Felix and I managed to get one or two nice action shots.

Big shout out to the athletes, and to Anna, Isaac and Orion for coaching at the Canada Cup. Bonus shout outs to Noelle and Felix for providing additional cheering sections.
Thanks to BC Ferries for the very late ride home and the opportunity to spend four hours sharing this beautiful location with our guests from Germany at the end of an exhausting day. They LOVED the shoelace selection:

Join the club equipment order
Are you looking to update some of your equipment, or purchase your own equipment? The club is making an order and we welcome you to join in. Take advantage of the club discount and save on shipping.
How it works: The more the club spends at crossed swords in a calendar year, the greater the discount on PBT, QPSport, Leon Paul and Favero equipment, and all blade and shoe brands through the site. The more we purchase together, the better the discount.
Club members who order with us help build the discount, and benefit from it along with the club. We order as a batch, and orders are shipped in one batch, the club pays the shipping.
Our current club discount is 10% (before tax).
If you wish to participate in the next order, have a look at crossedswords.ca and let me know which items you wish to purchase (send me the item list in an email). Once the order is assembled I will tell you the final total after discount for the items in your order and request payment. The order is submitted once payment is received.
If you have not ordered equipment before, let me know and I can assist. It is especially helpful if you have a favourite item in the club gear and we can help you find the equivalent item.
Sabre/Epee clinic
Have you taken our foil beginner class and want to try sabre and epee fencing? Have we got an offer for you! Free for CCFC members, CCFC beginner class students (including the girls clinic) and members of other local clubs, our four part introduction to sabre and epee will be held on Sundays from November 12 – December 4. Each class is 2 hours, from 3:45 – 5:45, and held in our regular spot: Royal Oak Middle School gym.
Coaches Miko Ross and James Taylor will bring just the right amount of mayhem and technique.
Soon you, too, can join the Epee and Sabre pistes! It is free, but space is limited to ensure we have adequate equipment. Pre-register by email to cap.city.fencing@gmail.com
OSM tournament #2
