Hello Fencers!
A few quick fencing updates for mid-September
*** NO Fencing Wednesday September 20**
because the school is being used for school things instead of sword fighting things
*** Beginners Classes – a few spots left For section 2 starting Wednesday Sep 27 ***
Our Section 1 Monday class is full (and starts tonight – September 18) but there are a few spots left on Wednesday. You are our best advertising, so please tell your friends! Challenge them to a duel! Then defeat them because they haven’t taken a fencing class. Then tell them about the class!
Details and registration for beginners is here:
https://capcityfencers.wordpress.com/fencing-in-victoria/register-for-the-2023-fencing-beginners-class/
*** HEMA ***
We also have two spots left in each HEMA intro sessions. So if you were hesitating, or have questions, let me know!
The equipment is slowly arriving for HEMA–the equipment for this class was made possible by a grant from ViaSport!
*** Tournaments ****
Thinking of tournaments? Here is some info just for you!
CFF license (for sanctioned tournaments
If your goal is to attend sanctioned competitions this year (like OSM tournaments or BC provincial events) it is time to renew your Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) license, which can be purchased here:
https://fencing.ca/purchase-a-cff-licence/
CCFC and UVIC tournaments are not sanctioned, so there are usually two unsanctioned events per year in town. OSM and Vancouver events usually require a license to participate.
Upcoming tournaments
There are some upcoming local tournaments you can register for:
OSM first circuit tournament for 2023-2024
Requires a CFF license, costs $25 for one event – Oct 21

This is a great local tournament for our members. There are youth and adult events. Isaac can help you choose the best event for you!
Nan-Sang Ho Legacy Open – November 24 – at UVIC
This is an unsanctioned event – no CFF license required
This has all ages together in one event for foil and one for epee. A good friendly event for a beginner! Will have a range of beginner and experienced fencers. $20 for the first event.

Acknowledgements
You may have noticed that ViaSport has provided support to several initiatives for youth at our club! They have helped us develop many initiatives for youth fencing over the years. Yay ViaSport!
We are also grateful for the ongoing support from the Province of British Columbia.
And where would we be without you, our members?! Your participation and enthusiasm is what makes this club great!
🙂 And now I will fight you all with a sword!
