** Welcome to 2024, fencers!
————————————————————
Hi fencers! Did you miss us? Yes, we are back for another year! Fencing starts again on January 8, and we can’t wait.
We have all sorts of things in store for you, including an intro to epee fencing, our spring tournament, and all the crazy fun you know and love, or at least grumpily tolerate.
** Introduction to Epée
————————————————————
Epee fencing bout
Tired of walking across the whole gym to get to your piste? Despondent about dead spots on your opponent’s lamé? Work/School/Life already has enough darn priorities and you are done with thinking about priority after 7pm?
Epée fencing may be just what you need!
International man of mystery and CCFC coach Dafydd Foster will be offering a two-night introduction to epée during club practice on January 15 and 22.
This clinic is free for club members (i.e. anyone currently attending as drop in or monthly member) but registration is required as space is limited.

** January Beginner Registration is Open
————————————————————
Tell all your friends! They can find a and register here: https://capcityfencers.wordpress.com/fencing-in-victoria/beginners-registration/
No really, please spread the word! The very best promotion is word of mouth.
** AGM and Board Election
————————————————————
Our AGM was held as promised… The big take aways are
* we brought in plenty of grant funding for specific projects
* Budget is good but tight for covering operating costs, making it hard to add more equipment. (What can you do? Promote the beginner class—see above—and register for our tournament as these are club money makers when sold out!)
* No changes to club registration fees for 2024
* The Board has written BC Fencing Association for clarification on their changes to fees.
And HOORAY some wonderful people have been elected to the Board of Directors. Elected to serve on the CCFC board for 2024 are:
Eden Armstrong, Youth Rep
Ryan Burrell, Director at Large
Isaac Carter-Hughes, Vice President
Stacy Chappel, Treasurer
Chris Hodgson, Director at Large
Trevor Morrison, Director at Large
Anna Smith, Director at Large
Robert Smith, President
Also, volunteering as an unofficial youth rep (he may be too young according to the law, but he is just right according to our hearts!)
Griffin Jost!
Thanks everyone for participating and to all our volunteers (on the board as well as at club events) in 2023, and for stepping up for the coming year!
** Introduction to Epee
————————————————————
Above description too verbose? Here is the TL;DR: Intro epée class on January 15 and 22 will be awesome.

** Gift Stealing Night
————————————————————
** There were games (and elves)
————————————————————
** There was so much candy!
————————————————————
** There was vegetables. Coffee is a vegetable right?
————————————————————
** And all manner of sparkly creations!
————————————————————
** Are you missing your water bottle?
————————————————————
On our last night of fencing in 2023 there was a lot of (gift) stealing. But theft isn’t the only way to lose something at the club; there is also abandonment! Not to mention existing in a sort of blurry constant chaos. Ask me how I know!
A very nice blue water bottle suffered just such a fate on December 20. We found them standing listless and alone mid gym, after everyone left.
Missing your favourite water bottle? Have no fear, they are safe! They had a lovely bath and a good holiday, and just a little tiny serving of fruit cake. They barely remember that you forgot them as soon as a shiny new gift caught your eye. They will be returned to the club on January 8 and have made a resolution to rejoin your gym gear with only the very occasional bitter aside about forgetfulness and etc.
** Tournaments!

** You made it to the very end of the newsletter. Congratulations!
————————————————————
** What more can I say? We have an instagram! You can see it by clicking that circle below which I guess is a camera icon?
————————————————————
** Interesting fact… If Instagram features James as Roman Centurion again when promoting this newsletter, it means I have forgotten to update the image in the template!
————————————————————
And if Centurion is the wrong term, I know I will hear about it, you intrepid readers!
Also, first fencer to come to practice and tell me (accurately) how many exclamation points are in this missive gets a lollipop.
