Want to know how to fix your weapons?

Want to help the club repair gear?

YOU KNOW YOU DO!

When: Saturday February 17, 2 – 5 pm

at Rob’s place! (near UVIC)

You do not need to own gear to attend,

If you are a new gear owner, this workshop is highly recommended!

Club gear order

Once you learn to repair a weapon… you might just want to order a few repair related supplies! Or feel ready to plunge in to weapon ownership!

We will be placing our next club gear order right after the gear repair workshop. Deadline to be included is February 21.

If you want to get in on the club discount (we order from crossed swords) please let us know!

If you have no idea what to order, please ask for help!

No fencing February 19

Although many of you come with your families to fencing, on Family Day Monday you will need to spend your family time not at fencing.

Use the time wisely. For instance, you can recruit the rest of your family to the club!

Yes we are fencing on February 14 ❤

Yes, we will be fending on February 14. 🙂 Because we love fencing!

There might be chocolate or some other surprise depending on how organized I can be. And how crazy I get with AI. I mean check this out:

Learn to referee fencing with this handy website

Ok stop looking that weird cat valentine card thing… because we have something way better!

Rob Smith passed along this excellent website to help build confidence and skill at reffing fencing bouts.

On this site you can watch a clip of a fencing action, decide how you think it should be called, what action is involved, if carding is needed… and then see if you got it right.

Rob notes it is best on a computer, not a phone.

Note to reader: I got my first try correct! (Admittedly I used the slow motion feature).

Tournaments

CCFC’s Escrime Sundae Tournament April 6

Registration is picking up for Escrime Sundae!

The earlier you register the easier it is for the organizers to ensure we have adequate ice cream for you!

This tournament is unsanctioned— no CFF license required—and we have events in foil, epee, sabre, and a beginner foil event as well.

All fencers eligible for senior events (ages 13 and up) are encouraged to sign up.

$20 for first event; $10 for second event; free for additional events. DO ALL THE EVENTS!

Ice cream for everyone! Special glassware from which to eat your ice cream for the medalists! If you don’t believe me when I say this tournament is super fun, check out these blast from the past photos:

OSM Tournament — THIS MONTH on February 24

Can’t wait to start competing? If you have an active Canadian Fencing Federation (CFF) license (renew or purchase on here), you can compete in OSM’s February 24 tournament, which features epee and foil events in multiple age categories:

  • Y8, Y10, Junior, & Senior Men’s/Women’s Foil
  • Cadet & Senior Men’s/Women’s Epee

These are great events and we encourage CCFC members to participate!

Send me your photos and other exciting content

Hey! Have a great photo from the club… maybe that moment when you look super triumphant after defeating your club BFF (Best Frenemy at Fencing)? Want to see it on the club instagram or featured in this news? Send it to meeee!! 🙂 We would love to include more photos of members in our club news.

And why stop at photos? Have something to share with the club in this newsletter? (Favourite recipe for the night after tournaments? Best socks ranking system? a bit of poetry?) send it along (via email to cap.city.fencing)

I miss the old tim’s screens where if you ordered a Pecan Butter Tart and coffee you got this gem as your order summary:
Mention our special discount code “Pecan Butt” when registering for the armoury workshop to make me laugh and maybe get a lollipop or something like it.
