WE ARE BACK MONDAY SEPT 9

Registration stuff

Thanks to everyone who has registered! So exciting to see so many people are coming back! Here are some FAQs

When should I register?

If you have not registered for 2024-2025 fencing year, please do so this ASAP. If you can do it today or Sunday morning I will really appreciate it as it makes it a lot easier for me.

You already have my details, do I need to register again?

Yes. It really helps me out.

  • I don’t know you are returning unless you register. Having a form for everyone really helps me keep track of a lot of records.
  • I don’t know if you are changing how you pay this year
  • We need to confirm if people have changes to contact info, emergency contacts etc.
  • We have a few extra questions to help coaches plan things
  • New option for BCFA/CFF fees.

I use the punch card… what about unused punches from last year

They are still valid. I will provide punch card people (PCP!) an update on how many punches they have left.

I want to attend monthly but cannot do the full year as I will be away for a few months. Can I still get the discount rate?

Yes. If you will join for 2 or more consecutive months, choose the “annual membership in instalments” option and then add a comment somewhere on the form telling me when you will be attending and away. I will set up the billing accordingly.

Where do I register?

On the club website, click “MEMBERSHIP” at the top

Or click on one of the “MEMBER RENEWAL” buttons below. 🙂

Volunteer for CCFC!

99% of the club volunteering is showing up and pitching in. If you want to do a bit more, we could use some help with…

  • Club photographer! Take photos at club events that we can use for newsletters and/or website. Show up to tournaments and take photos of our members in their moment of glory!
  • Club journalist! Interview members for this newsletter! Find cool fencing videos to share with the club! Send a press release out when club members win things! Help create the monthly Fencing News! Edit out the excessive use of !!!!
  • Member of tournament organizing committee: join in on planning for the Escrime Sundae tournament (finding prizes, buying ice cream, promotions)
  • King of the Swiffer! WHO WILL BE THE FIRST TO SWIFFER THIS YEAR? [no sign up required, just win the swiffer king battle each night]
  • Sign in question suggester [help me!]
  • First aid. Do you have your first aid certification? It would be great to know has this training for tournaments especially.
  • [Invent your own] Does the club need a Fencing Club Crier? Keeper of the Club Chicken? Creator of wacky things for prizes? Do you have ideas how you could help out?
I am an awesome volunteer

BCFA/CFF fencing memberships – what is up with this?

So here is the deal with BCFA/CFF memberships. These are required if you wish to compete in fencing.

If you want to compete in tournaments

For a competitive license to be used in Canada, the cost is $77.07 (including processing fees and a wee bit of tax on the processing fees).

You can purchase it here.

The form is a bit confusing, you need to select BOTH a BC and CFF license and it will say the fee is $40, but then when you get through all the questions to the bill it will end up being $77.07.

If you do this yourself, PLEASE indicate you are a member of CAPITAL CITY FENCERS CLUB (CAP) as this will assist us with support and funding from BCFA.

Recreational members

There is an option for a recreational BCFA membership in there too. The fee is $10, and ends up being 11.94 with the processing.

Buying these through the CCFC

You can add either of the above two licenses to your bill for CCFC membership. The BCFA amount will be applied to your first bill if paying in instalments as we will have to pay for it upfront.

If you want to do this through CCFC they will ask me a bunch of questions on the form about personal data we don’t collect from members, so I will send those to you before I proceed.

Additional membership types

For coaches and others who get specialty add ons like referee and etc memberships, I ask you to kindly do your own registration because it is beyond me. 🙂

Doing the BCFA / CFF membership on your own

Simply select “I have my own license” on the firm.

Why is CCFC getting into this BCFA/CFF membership stuff?

CCFC is a member of BCFA, and through this membership we obtains insurance for the club and are eligible for grant funding.

The insurance covers our club practices and members attending sanctioned tournaments (i.e. members who have a BCFA/CFF license) in the event of injury.

CCFC also purchases insurance through Saanich rec to cover folks attending our practice times at Royal Oak.

BCFA has asked that we ensure all CCFC members are signed up with BCFA as part of our insurance. Additionally, Saanich Rec let us know our insurance fee may increase after November

As a result, we are asking members to acquire at least a recreational membership to provide coverage in event of injury should there be any gaps. We recognize some people may already have insurance for sports activities they have purchased independently, or have through other providers so it is up to members to determine their needs on this.

  1. We added BCFA/CFF to our invoicing system because
it is not easy to navigate the membership registrartion, and
  2. it allows people to include the both BCFA/CFF and CCFC fees with their applications for KidSport or reimbursement from other benefit programs through work, etc.
This email is way too long

BC Election is October 19

Which means no gym for us on that day (It’s a Saturday).

As I like to do, I asked AI to make me a little celebratory image for this exciting democratic moment… and AI wants us to ROCK THE BOTE!

Which, if you have watched Derry Girls, means you are already humming.
