Important dates

After the recent mix up I thought it would be good share ALL the dates this term we will not have the gym

Especially since ONE is this Monday, September 30, which is Truth and Reconciliation Day.

We will not have the gym on the following days

Monday September 30 (Truth and Reconciliation Day)
Monday, October 14 (Thanksgiving)
Monday, November 11 (Remembrance Day)
Wednesday, December 4 (School use)

Additionally, our Saturday practice on November 30 will be replaced by our Beginners Invitational — so MORE gym time that day!

Birthday Bouts!

As per club tradition, we will celebrate Samuel turning 24 with 24 point birthday bouts on September 25 (closest practice after the big birthday).

Want your own birthday bouts? Let us know when you arrive that it is your birthday (or closest practice to your birthday) and we will make a lot of noise and challenge people to fight you.

THANKS ROB for the new (to us) reels!

Thanks to Rob for fixing up some old reels to help expand our number of pistes! And thanks to UVIC for donating the non-working reels he has been updating with various bits and bobs.

Looking forward to testing them out over the coming weeks.

Next step is converting an old laptop as a score box. 🙂

As many of you have noted five strips is simply not enough on a busy night at CCFC. We are waiting on the release of version 2.0 of Calbur remote fencing system (soooon I hope!)

Equipment orders

A few members have asked about equipment orders through the club.

We do have orders going in very shortly (this weekend) that club members can piggy back on if they are ready to go. OR if you need some help and advice before you order, we can get you in the next order.

Ordering with the club has the advantage of

a club discount and
speedy shipping within Canada.
We use crossedswords.ca. You select the items and then we invoice you and then send in the order once we receive payment. Remember to include sizing, right or left hand, and all specifications for each item. Gear is delivered to the club and we bring it to practice.

Some fencers may prefer to source their own to get specific items not available at crossedswords.ca. In that case we can help with advice on sizing etc. if it is your first time ordering fencing gear. Always smart to speak to a coach who knows your weapon, and your fencing style, before ordering.

Promote the beginner class

Every google ad I don’t purchase is money toward club equipment!

So help us promote the beginner class by sending messages to your friends (or frenemies you want a chance to duel).

The October class is pretty much full (one spot left), but there is still space in our November class.
