First night of fencing 2024: Monday, January 6
First Saturday Skills and Drills: Saturday January 18
OSM Tournament Saturday Jan 11 (NB: No skills and drills on Jan 11 — come to the tournament instead!!!!)
Beginners Winter 2025 class: (Section 1) starts Jan 22 & (Section 2 starts Feb 19)
ESCRIME SUNDAE Saturday April 5 (No skills and drills April 5 due to tournament)
Last day of fencing this season: Wed June 25
No fencing on stat holidays (Monday Feb 17, April 21, May 19), or when the school needs the gym: (Monday June 23, Wednesday April 16, Wednesday May 28).

REGULAR PRACTICE SCHEDULE:

“Chills” Mondays 8:30 – 10 pm (starting Jan 6) – fencing only, no coach-led intro

“Thrills” Wednesdays: 7:30 – 10 pm (starting Jan 8) – coach led warm up session at start, followed by fencing, fencing and more fencing

“Skills and Drills” Saturdays 4:30 – 6pm (starting Jan 18) – 1.5 hours of skill development drills and coach instruction).

If you were in Section1 (October Beginners) Your course is now complete. Congratulations! We hope you will continue fencing with CCFC. If you wish to continue fencing, please register using our Membership registration page.

For those who started in November (Section 2), your class fee covers your participation in all club practices for January 2025. See important dates (above) for practice times and details. (And yes, you can use the membership registration page too, if you already know you want to continue in February!)

Register for OSM tournament January 11

OSM is having their next sanctioned tournament on Saturday January 11.

This is a great local event for youth and adult fencers, with events in foil, epee and sabre! W00t W00t!

NOTE: CCFC coach support available for our fencers attending this tournament Please register ASAP to help us plan this!

This tournament is SANCTIONED and requires participating fencers to hold a current CFF license for the 2024-2025 season.

Events:

Y12, Cadet, Junior, Senior Men’s/Women’s Foil
Senior Men’s/Women’s Epee

Senior Men’s/Women’s Sabre

Fees:

$35.00 for first event, $25.00 for each additional event.

Payment options: cash, cheque, e-transfer (visa/debit not accepted at this time)

NOTE: fees are waived for all OSM Fencing members in good standing.

Uniform Requirements:

ALL fencers must have full kit (i.e. complete uniform, weapon-appropriate mask, knee-high socks, etc.) with minimum 350N C.E. resistance.

January 2025 Beginners Class Registration is now open

Our next beginner class starts January 22, 2025 (with a second section starting February 19, 2025).

There are 12 spots in each class. Fencers must be 13 years and up.

AGM and Board update

Thanks to everyone who attended our club AGM December 11. We had a great discussion about club finances, achievements and goals for 2025… and then we fenced!

Welcome to our 2025 Board of Directors (elected at the meeting):

Robert Smith, Stacy Chappel, Chris Hodgson, Robert Taylor, Samuel Comeault, Eden Armstrong (youth rep), Trevor Morrison, Anna Smith, Noelle Chang Zhelka, Isaac Carter Hughes. Youth members present elected Board youth rep: Eden Armstrong (voting) and Emmet Tupper (non-voting youth rep/advisory member).
