No fencing May 28 so let’s picnic!

It has been a busy season with plenty of new members joining the club (hurrah!) so this is a chance for everyone to hang out and get to know who you are stabbing. 😉

When: Wednesday May 28, starting at 7 pm until lantern fencing time.

Where:

Meet at the Elk/Beaver Lake Group Picnic shelter at the filter beds.

Note the filter beds picnic area has its own parking lot off Beaver Lake Rd.

Filter Beds Entrance

From West Saanich Road turn east onto Beaver Lake Road and drive 1.2km to the Filter Beds Parking lot. From Elk Lake Drive turn west onto Beaver Lake Road and drive 800m to the Filter Beds Parking lot. (Don’t get fooled by the Elk/Beaver Lake Equestrian society which is the first parking lot you see and frankly #wrongsport unless it has modern pentathalon but that is another thing … keep going along Beaver Lake Road to the filter beds parking lot).

What is already there

The filter beds has proper bathrooms, covered picnic tables, a water tap, and a great big lawn for games and schemes (See below).

What to bring

Bring yourself, and, if you wish:

• some snack foods to share
• lawn games / activities
• fencing gear if you like. I will bring a bit of stuff from the cabinet.
• family and friends

James has schemes for some fencing activities

I will bring croquet

I also have some dishes to hold snacks

Beginners – what now?

You are now ready to join regular practice on BOTH Mondays (from 8:30 to 10 pm) and Wednesdays (7:30 to 10 pm).

Starting June (part 3) we also invite you to join our Saturday Skills and Drills sessions, which focus on technique. These are also in the ROMS gym from 4:30 – 6 pm and involve structured skill development work with the club coaches.

We hope all the beginners will also join our picnic on Wednesday May 28 (see above) … because the more you know us the more you want to sword fight with us!

Register for OSM team event

This is a team tournament, so gather a group of 3-4 fencers who agree with you on what is the best weapon (!) … and sign up! (HINT: The picnic could be a great time to find some team mates!) This is a great and very fun event, so I hope we will have plenty of CCFC fencers taking part.
