Fall 2022 intake now open
Capital City Fencers’ Club invites foil fencers aged 12-17 to join our upcoming Youth Development Program. With a balance of conditioning, technical, and tactical training, this program will help fencers of all experience levels to develop an arsenal of strong, replicable hits. This 8-week series will develop technical and cognitive competencies on the piste to help you consistently fence your best bouts and become a more self-reliant fencer. Meet other fencers, make new friends, and improve your results against the only opponent that truly counts: the fencer you were yesterday.
Requirements:
This program is open only to foil fencers born between 2005 and 2010 who have a minimum of six months’ fencing experience. All athletes must sign the CCFC Code of Conduct prior to registration and must wear non-marking shoes and long pants or fencing whites during all practices. Please email cap.city.fencing@gmail.com if you need to borrow equipment for use during practices. All fencers and attending adults must be fully vaccinated. Masks are encouraged.
Dates: Sundays from October 16 to December 4, 2022
Times: 3:45-5:45 pm
Location: Royal Oak Middle School, 751 Travino Lane
Meet the Coaches:
Anna Smith has been a foil fencer for twenty-five years and has coached youth fencers, competitive athletes, and varsity teams in Victoria and in Dublin, Ireland. Though her own background is competitive, she is a firm believer in the value of fencing for every type of fencer, and of the value of developing strong technical and tactical foundations for a lifelong love of sport.
Isaac Carter-Hughes is a half-man, half-lawnmower with an insatiable thirst for human blood. His passion for youth development is largely culinary; he keeps several underperforming cadets in his basement in case of late-night munchies. He has never taught anything, to anyone, for any reason, and is deeply unexcited to be forced into this program.
